FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

for capturing those moments

Q: My horse won’t stand, can I still do a photoshoot?
A: YES! The amazing thing with photography is that it only takes a fraction of a
second to capture that perfect picture! My times are approximate because every
horse is different and some need more or less time to get through the poses. If
your horse doesn’t love standing for a long period of time we will work with them
by doing some poses that don’t require standing still and come back to the “hard”
ones at the end. We may skip some of the more riskier poses to ensure your
safety but don’t worry, there will still be lots to choose from! Just keep smiling!

Q: I want a fine art portrait done of all my horses but they won’t stand together,
can we still make that happen?

A: YES! All of my group fine art sessions are done by taking individual pictures of
each horse and putting them together in post. We take lots of different angles so
that when I am putting the images together later I can ensure that it looks like
they are standing together.

Q: I don’t have a dark barn aisle with a large door but I would love to do a fine
art session, is it still possible?

A: Maybe. Definitely reach out to me so we can chat! You may not have a perfect
location to capture those full body shots but I have been able to make it work by
using a driveway on the outside of a barn in a shady spot!

Q: You can edit that out, right?
A: This is not a yes or a no… I will edit out lead ropes/ reins, the person holding
the horse, small blemishes like a halter scar. If more extensive edits are required
like removing dirt, removing a halter, changing the directions of the ears, etc.
then there would be an extra charge. Best is if you have your horse looking show
ready!

Q: I’d like to do a fine art session without a halter or bridle, is that possible?
A: Yes, there are a few ways we can do this but it may not work for every shoot. If
this is the desire then make sure you let me know prior to the shoot so we can do
our best to make it come true! Edits can be done in post to remove a thin halter,
the other easier option, but only done if the scenario and horse is right, is to take
the picture without a halter.

Q: What should I wear?
A: This is a tricky question because every individual is different. It is nice to have
neutral colours that aren’t too bright to take the focus off of the subject. For
family sessions having everyone is similar style but not the exact outfit is great.
Message me if you are unsure for your specific shoot or to brainstorm ideas!

Q: When will I get my final images?
A: Images will be sent via an online link to download within 3 weeks of the
session. I recommend you download the images to a computer, the link will
expire.

Q: What’s your cancellation/ rescheduling policy?
A: It is important to be flexible especially while working with horses. No one likes
taking pictures in the pouring rain! Weather related calls will be made a day or
two prior to the shoot, there will be lots of communication if weather forecast is
less than ideal.

Q: What is the best time of day for a photoshoot?
A: For lifestyle sessions 2 hours prior to sunrise or just after sunset is best. When
it is cloudy consistently, think winter time, we can make most daytime hours
work. During the summer on bright sunny days mid day is more of a challenge but
can be done if there are shady spots.
For fine art during the day hours is best, we want a good amount of indirect
sunlight for these ones.

Q: Can I bring multiple people/ horses/ dogs/ etc. to the shoot?
A: Definitely! I love taking pictures with a more dynamic. Keep in mind more
horses/ people/ pets will increase the price of the shoot.

Q: Should I braid my horse?
A: This is a personal decision but I think braiding for fine art images and wearing a
bridle always looks sharp.

Q: How do I know which fine art pictures I am getting?
A: Within a week after your session you will be sent a link with fine art proofs.
These images will be completely unedited but will give a feel of how the final
image will look. From there you will select which images you would like, at this
point you can also decide if you would like to upgrade your package to include
more images as well. After the images are selected the final images will be sent
within 3 weeks.
The images that are used for the group fine art image will be selected by me, I like
to keep this a surprise until the end and also select images on which ones look
more natural, i.e. like all the horses were actually posing together.

Q: Do you photograph weddings, maternity, newborn, etc?
A: These photoshoot styles I am very much still working towards improving. If
you’ve had a last-minute cancelation from a photographer you’ve booked with
then please do contact me!
I enjoy second shooting so you can always recommend me to your booked
photographer if you choose to have two.

Q: What should I bring to the photoshoot?
A: Including yourself bring any props that are special to you that you would like to
use. Have outfits organized if you are wearing more than one. For horse shoots a
clean halter or bridle and treats!

Q: I saw a picture on pinterest, can we re-create it?
A: I love using pinterest as a source of inspiration! We need to make sure we
focus on inspiration though, my style, your horse, etc may be different than the
picture you have found. Send any picture to me that you like though and that will
give me a good idea of what direction you hope for the photoshoot!
